GLBA § Regulation P — Consumer Privacy Rights

U.S. Bank
Privacy Opt-Out
Directory

Every major U.S. bank and financial institution is required by federal law to give you a phone number to limit sharing of your personal data. Almost nobody knows these numbers exist. Now you do. — CFPB source

What this is

Under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, financial companies must let you opt out of certain data sharing with affiliates and nonaffiliates. These are the direct phone numbers and online portals to do it.

What it limits

You can typically stop: (1) affiliates using your creditworthiness data, (2) affiliates marketing to you, and sometimes (3) nonaffiliate marketing. Everyday operational sharing cannot be stopped.

How to use this

Call the number for each institution you have an account with. Have your account number ready. Opt-outs are generally permanent until you cancel or your relationship ends.

Sources

All numbers sourced directly from each institution's official GLBA Consumer Privacy Notice PDF or privacy portal. Notice revision date is listed for each entry.

Important Limitations

What You Cannot Stop

Banks can always share your data for everyday operational purposes: processing transactions, responding to court orders, reporting to credit bureaus, and routine account maintenance. The GLBA opt-out does not apply to these.

Numbers Change

These numbers are sourced from official privacy notices but can change. Always verify against the institution's current GLBA privacy notice, which they're required to make available. The revision date is listed for each entry.

Separate Products = Separate Calls

An opt-out for your Citibank checking account does not cover your Citi credit card. Each product line may have its own privacy notice and opt-out. Read each notice carefully.

State Protections May Be Stronger

California and Vermont residents have additional automatic protections — many banks will automatically restrict sharing for accounts with addresses in those states. Check your bank's state-specific disclosures.

Missing an institution? Found an outdated number?

This list is open-source and community-maintained. To add a bank, verify the current number directly from the institution's official GLBA Consumer Privacy Notice PDF — usually found at institution.com/privacy — then open a pull request or issue on GitHub with the source link and notice revision date.

For American Express main cards, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs Marcus, and other institutions not yet listed, their numbers are product-specific — locate the relevant GLBA notice at americanexpress.com/us/privacy-center or the respective institution's privacy page.
